Link-Up (Qld) welcomes Sonia Thorpe to the team as a Social and Emotional Wellbeing Counsellor!
Sonia comes to Link-Up (Qld) with a breadth of experience cultivated by a life of learning and a passion for supporting others. Once a teacher, her love for travelling and adventure led her to roles in Australia and overseas, where she thrived in a multitude of educational settings.
Later working in the hospital system, Sonia learnt much from her time as a Grief and Loss Counsellor, that carried on as she stepped into palliative care, oncology, paediatrics, respiratory/thoracic, acute medical care and maternity. She also spent time as a Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, while running a part-time counselling business.
Throughout her working journey, Sonia has shown her strengths in kindness and interpersonal care, with her new role as a Link-Up (Qld) Social and Emotional Wellbeing Counsellor being no exception.
“What I value most about working at Link-Up (Qld) is being part of a team of people who share a passion for writing wrongs and are committed to nurturing healing, reconnection and growth,” Sonia says.
“In my work, I learn from others’ knowledge and experience, and I am supported to hold space for Stolen Generations survivors and descendants as they begin their journey of reconnection with family, culture and country.”

Sonia believes in the work of Link-Up (Qld) and the importance of restoring spiritual ties to Country, language and mob.
“Reclaiming identity and understanding one’s heritage is essential to healing, and I hope that in some way every reunion helps repair the past,” she says.
Born and raised in Rockhampton, on the traditional lands of the Darumbal people, Sonia has fond memories of childhood drives to Emu Park, where she remembers her love for the ocean and looking for sea life. To this day, she loves the wonders of nature and its intricate details.
With each Link-Up (Qld) client she works with, Sonia brings this passion for the world and the people who live in it, in combination with all she has learnt over her impressive career. We’re excited to have her on board and looking forward to what’s ahead!
